What to do when your Customer Service Rep. is a PEGGY.

Taking it on the chin when you need assistance.

The road to finding efficient customer service.
The road to finding efficient customer service.
Source: A long and winding road.

Peggy after Peggy and yet, Peggy is on the line again.

What do you do when you can't understand the CSR?

Let me tell you about my recent computer assistance, after the crash. Yes, it finally happened to me, and more than once. After everyone was telling me to join Social Networks, I finally caved in and joined a few of them. However, within two weeks, someone from one of the networks emailed me and my computer crashed. A few hundred dollars later, I was up and running again. Then within a few days that person emailed me and the computer crashed... once again. Not much help from virus protection.

Money was flowing out of my account for all sorts of fix it plans. Now, I'm as polite as possible when it comes to speaking to customer service reps, however, I reached my saturation point when one of the "Peggy," customer service reps was so rude that I couldn't find the words to answer "him," back! So I said, "Now listen to me... Peggy, what is it with your company? Why have I been on the phone with you and many other CSR's for the past twelve hours and the computer is still out of service.? He kept telling me to pull this cord out, plug it in over there and so on and on. This went on for another 4 hours. We got cut off. I called back and got another "Peggy."

I spoke to over twenty Peggy's in the course of one week. Many of the reps were so under qualified that I found myself training them to help me.

The problem finally was corrected but I suffered a bad fall in the process. It was 2:00 a.m., I was exhausted after the 12 hour dance with the computer company. Just before I was going to bed, I saw a cricket, tried to get it with my slipper... then I slipped. I think it happened because the cricket jumped up near me. The funny thing about this is when I fell the slipper got him. So there I was stunned and hurt with him dead near me.

I fractured a finger on my left hand, most of my ribs on my right side and fractured my right foot! This was the first time that I fractured anything. I knew right away that something was broken. I crawled to the freezer, (this happened in the kitchen) took out a few packs of frozen vegetables and went up to bed with the vegetables strapped to my finger and knee. I refused to believe that I fractured anything, until a few days later when I couldn't walk.

Kick Peggy to the Curb.

Keep this in mind. When speaking to "Peggy," try to move the process forward. If within a few minutes he or she does not get to the solution, say your goodbyes and call back to try another CSR.

The funniest thing about the whole situation was that I started to call each CSR Peggy. Man or woman, they were all Peggy's to me. The number of jobs that have gone to countries outside of the USA is disgraceful. These companies use names familiar to us, like Jeffrey, Cindy, etc. One of the male reps helped me very quickly after I kept calling him Peggy. When he solved on of the problems he told me... "My name is not Peggy." He knew the credit card commercial where a male customer service rep said... "Hello, I am Peggy." At this point, I thanked him by the name he gave me because he did fix my computer problem.

Until we meet again... Francesca27

Oh yeah, I'm so much better. The ribs hurt the most, but were the first to feel better. This event happened 3/27/11 so I'm on the mend. Don't get me wrong... most CSR's are very professional, however, caller beware... Peggy is on the prowl.

oh man, this is so real that it hurts when i laff. Thankfully Francesca27 you are ok from your ordeal, and the computer is working again. Yes I have come across "Peggy" a few times also. it seems to me that the companies that sell the equipment should train the CSR's, instead we end up with "Peggy" because no one wants the job or didn't learn how to run a support program in school. what are we to do? thank you for a great hub, very informative. gets my vote^

Yes, Bri36,I agree with you. What are we to do? My hands are becoming tied with too many things. One rip off after another. We just have to keep on our toes with everything.

This is terrible. As an IT consulting company, we do support for many businesses and deal with numerous levels of bad to terrible support. My advantage is I usually know more than the person I'm talking to, but I feel so, so, sorry for those who don't.

Hello Francesca

My family and I have been there with our cable provider Comcast. In fact, it has been over a year and we are still going through problems with all of our services. I can sympathize.

OMG, I have also had my share of "Peggy's". I called for assistance from a CSR and I couldn't understand what she was saying. I must have said "excuse me?" and "could you repeat that" at least ten times. I tried to be as polite as possible, but once I get frustrated, my patience is the first thing to leave me. I asked her where she was located and, like your situation, she was in another country. I finally ended up requesting to speak to a supervisor.

I'm glad you are better. I must say that I hate talking to crs's because I can't understand what they are trying to say, most of the time because they aren't clear and I don't speak their language! Frustrating. thanks for sharing!
