How to Paint Metal, Wicker and Rattan Patio Furniture, the Quick and Easy Way.

Refreshing Faded or Chipped Metal Patio Furniture.
Useful instructions for Metal, Wicker or Rattan Items.
Every few years we like to refresh our metal patio furniture. Some years we use the same color paint but this year we decided to go with a bright, and lighter shade of blue. Blue looks so good with the emerald color of the lawn in the background.
Sometimes we brush the paint on*. This year my husband is spraying it on.
Here is the three step process that we use. You will be so happy with this method!
1. Before your lawn needs to be mowed, put one piece of the furniture that you will be painting in the center of the lawn.
2. Spray or brush paint your brains out! Go wild! Cover all surface areas with one coat of paint. If you miss a spot or want another coat... wait a bit and paint again.
3. After you are finished painting and the paint is no longer tacky, move the item to a different place to let it dry. Then, Mow the lawn!
This method works well. You won't hurt the lawn because you will be mowing the sprayed blades of grass. You don't need drop cloths, newspaper or anything else. So you'll save time and money.
*Note: If there are chips, flaked or any rough spots, use a wire brush and remove those things. Then rub with a fine grade of sandpaper, before you start to paint.
Wicker and Rattan Patio Furniture.
This method also works well for Wicker and Rattan Patio Furniture when you use the same method, however, we find that spray paint works best.
It's amazing what a coat of paint can do! We have painted wicker picnic utensil holders, gift fruit baskets and many other wicker and rattan items. Before you throw away your stained, faded or moldy items... clean it up a bit. (soak stained or moldy items in a bucket or any deep container, with 4 parts water to 1 part bleach, then dry it out.) After your item dries, you are ready to give it a coat of paint. You can do this over and over again. Think of the money you will save with this quick and fugal method of restoring items that you already own.
Until we meet again... Francesca27

Useful idea, we will give it a try!
What do you do if one layer is falling off and another layer is showing thru...is there a prep?
I love this article. I laughed. Good humor!
What a great tip. I'll keep it in mind.
Very smart. I'm going to do this. Thanks.
I just bought a Devonshire aluminum furniture set and the build quality is great but the aesthetics don't look half as good as this.
The chair looks great. Good idea.
