How to Make Sun Tea (with a bonus.)
By Francesca27
Sun Tea made Easy.
Solar Energy Sun Tea.
Energy Saving Sun Tea.
If we plan ahead we can save some money by making Iced Tea with a little help from the Sun. After you use the steps in the following recipe you will do this over and over again all summer long.
You will be surprised how quickly the sun makes tea. I put the container out in the sun, went in to wash some peppermint and when I went outside, the water already turned color. I let the tea and peppermint water stay outside for 2 hours longer.
Sun Tea with a Bonus:
1 Gallon Size Glass Jar (plastic won't work) I bought my jar in a thrift store.
2 Quart Size Glass Jar
1 1/2 Gallons Filtered Water
8-12 Regular Sized Tea Bags, paper tags removed
(you can use more bags if you like a stronger tea, however, I find 8-12 bags makes a refreshing tasting Iced Sun Tea)
1 Cup Sugar
2 Cups Chopped Fresh, Washed Peppermint, stems removed (This is the Bonus that will really bring the tea a special and refreshing flavor.)
In the Gallon Size Jar add about a gallon of filtered water and the tea bags. In the 2 Quart Jar add the chopped peppermint and the sugar. Fit the lids on the jars and set out in the Sun for 2 -4 hours.
Fill a Serving Pitcher half way with Ice. Strain the peppermint/sugar mixture into a bowl, discard the peppermint. Add 1/2 of the peppermint/sugar mixture into the Serving Pitcher. Squeeze the tea bags to get every drop of tea into the gallon jar. Then fill the rest of your serving pitcher with the Sun Tea. You can combine and refrigerate the rest..

Thanks ThelmaC and annamaria123. I like the mild taste and how the peppermint comes thru in such a refreshing way. Happy tea time.

I forgot all about Sun Tea. Thanks for the reminder and I will try your recipe. Now, where did I put my glass jar?
Beautiful pictures. I'll make some soon. Thanks.
I haven't made Sun Tea in years. Hmmm......I think the last time was during one of our past economic crashes (1970's?). Thanks for the reminder.
I'll make the tea but I like it real sweet.
Thanks for this hub because it is almost that time of year where we make sun tea all the time! Sun will be constantly shining soon. Great hub and voted up!
I'm looking forward to making the first sun tea of the season. The mint is just popping up, so it looks like we won't have long to wait. Thanks for hopping by!
