Garden Scarecrow

In our garden, we spent the time to position our fruit trees in the best possible places for them to grow and produce fine fruit. However, the squirrels have been taking our peaches off the trees weeks before maturity. In the last few years the trees were loaded with peaches. But the squirrels got them all. They don't even leave behind one for us! We're all into sharing, but this has gone too far.

You can find directions online on how to make a scarecrow. I liked the method we used in the photos. The squirrels bury the young peaches near a large Elm tree that is near our peach trees and then wait for the flesh to rot off and then they dig up the pit to eat the inner seed.

Hopefully, Flop Along will keep the squirrels away this year!

Until we meet again... Francesca27

That's exactly why I made the scarecrow, A.CreativeThinker, and you know what... he has kept the squirrels away. I had to cut an aluminum pie plate in half and added them to his sleeves to make him a pair of hands. They were curious, however, they don't go near him at all with the movement of his new hands.

This looks like a great idea for my garden Francesca27. Hopefully, it will keep away some of the squirrels from digging into it.

Great idea. :)

We never had a scarecrow. I wouldn't mind having one.

Does the scarecrow sometimes scare you? I know it would me. Great idea. Just don't forget he's out there.

Flop Along looks like a scarecrow that we've made, I think I know some of his relatives.

I think I know some of his relatives. They sure scared anything that saw them. I see a lot of resemblance. I think Flop Along will do just fine!

Thanks Kimmie for your comment. So far, so good. We haven't seen a squirrel near the peach trees since Flop Along has been on duty, however, we noticed some critter started to dig into our veggie garden! Now what could we do? I've run out of rags and plastic bags to fill another scarecrow... think we'll try putting an aluminum pie pan on a stick in the middle of the garden... what do you think? Francesca27
